Program Notes

Henry Koster directed Samuel G. Engel’s production of The Story of Ruth (20th Century Fox, 1960). Norman Corwin’s screen play is a vibrant recreation of Biblical times.  The cast includes Stuart Whitman, Tom Tryon, Peggy Wood, Viveca Lindfors, Jeff Morrow and introduces Elana Eden as Ruth.

Five years after The Silver Chalice Waxman created one of his finest scores for this film and it became one of his favorite works.

Richard Mills recorded the Suite as part of Franz Waxman: Legends of Hollywood: Volume 4. The complete soundtrack was later released by Varese Sarabande.
