Program Notes
Benedetto Marcello was born in Venice July 24, 1686. He studied the violin, singing and law as well as composition, and held government positions being a member of the Venetian Council of Forty in 1711. These 12 concertos were published in 1702. While
researching music for his score for The Nun’s Story Franz Waxman discovered this music in Venice. Marcello died in 1739.
